ServicesStorm Damage Repair
Storm Damage Repair in Covington
Wind lifts shingles and breaks their seal strips. Hail bruises the mat under the granules. We document that damage, cover anything open to rain, and give you a repair date and arrival window. If that date has to move, we call and tell you why.

What storm damage repair fixes, and why timing matters
Storm damage repair covers what one bad afternoon does to a roof: creased or missing shingles, bruised mats, bent flashing, split ridge caps, punctured decking and dented gutters. Some of it leaks right away. Much of it does not, and that is the part that costs you later. A hail hit that fractures the fiberglass mat lets water reach the underlayment, and a few freeze-thaw cycles turn a small bruise into a soft spot.
After a storm crosses Northern Kentucky, every roofer's phone rings at once. We tell you plainly when we can get to your home and give you an arrival window, not a vague day. If a backlog or another round of weather moves that window, you hear it from us first.
We are licensed and insured. We repair what can be repaired, and when the damage runs across most of the roof, we say so and explain what roof replacement would involve instead.
What our storm repair work includes
- Slope-by-slope photo record
- We mark and photograph hail hits, creased tabs and lifted shingles on each slope, plus dents on soft metals like box vents and downspouts. Soft metal dents help show hail size and direction. You keep every photo.
- Temporary cover where water can get in
- If shingles are gone or the deck is exposed, we secure a tarp with wood battens fastened to sound decking, not just weighted at the edges. That keeps the sheathing dry until your repair date.
- Shingle and ridge cap replacement
- We release the seal strips on the courses around each damaged shingle, set in new ones and fasten them at the manufacturer's nail line. Before ordering, we check whether your shingle line is still produced and source the nearest color and profile on the market. If it has been discontinued, you hear that before any work is scheduled.
- Flashing, boots and vents
- Wind bends step flashing and drip edge, and hail cracks plastic vents and the rubber collars on pipe boots. We replace those parts rather than sealing over them, because caulk over a split boot fails within a season or two.
- Decking repair after limb strikes
- A falling branch can crack or delaminate the sheathing under the shingles. We cut out damaged sections back to the rafters and install new decking before the roof goes back on.
- Gutters and siding hit by the same storm
- Hail dents gutters and cracks vinyl siding too. We can include that work in the same estimate so you have one scope and one schedule. See our Gutters and Siding pages for detail.
Signs your roof took storm damage
Granules piling at downspouts
A handful of gray or black grit at the downspout outlet after a hailstorm often means hits knocked granules off the shingles. Without that layer, sunlight breaks down the asphalt faster.
Creased or flapping shingles
Strong gusts lift tabs, break the adhesive seal and leave a horizontal crease near the nail line. A creased shingle no longer lies flat and can tear off in the next wind.
Dents on metal parts
Round dents on vents, flashing, gutters or downspouts are an easy-to-see clue that hail hit the shingles beside them as well.
Missing shingles or exposed felt
Bare spots or visible underlayment mean the roof's main water barrier is gone in that area. This is the one to have covered before the next rain.
New stains or damp attic sheathing
A ceiling stain or wet decking in the attic after a storm points to an opening above, often around flashing or a punctured shingle.
How a storm repair runs, from first call to final check
- 1
The call and an arrival window
You tell us what you saw and when the storm came through. We give you a realistic inspection date and a window for our arrival, and we call ahead if that changes.
- 2
Inspection, photos and any cover
We go over each slope and, with your OK, look at the underside of the decking from the attic. Everything we find gets photographed. If water can get in, temporary protection goes on during that same visit.
- 3
Written estimate and insurance paperwork
You get a line-item estimate along with the photos. If you file a claim, we can share those with your adjuster or meet them on the roof. The adjuster and your insurer decide coverage; we explain what we found and why it needs repair.
- 4
Repair day
We confirm the start time the day before. The crew protects landscaping, completes the work, and runs a magnet sweep over the yard and driveway for nails before leaving.
- 5
Final check and warranty
We walk the finished repair with you and point out what was replaced. Our workmanship is covered by a 10-year labor warranty.

What affects the cost of storm damage repair
Next-door neighbors can end up with very different repair scopes after one storm. What you pay comes down to how much was damaged and what turns up once the old shingles come off. Every item goes in writing before work starts, and any change is shown to you before it happens.
- How far the damage spreads
- A few creased tabs on one slope is a small job. Hail hits across every slope can push the decision toward replacement.
- Shingle availability and matching
- If your shingle line is discontinued, matching may take extra sourcing or a larger section of new shingles. Supply also tightens after a widespread storm, which can affect timing.
- Decking underneath
- Wet, cracked or delaminated sheathing has to be replaced before new shingles go down. We photograph it so you can see why it was added.
- Pitch, height and access
- Steep or tall roofs need more safety setup and slow the work. Tight lots and overhanging trees affect how we stage materials.
- Related metal and exterior work
- Replacing flashing, pipe boots, vents, dented gutters or cracked siding adds to the scope, but doing it in one visit avoids a second setup.
Storm damage repair questions
Something not covered here? (859) 249-8975
Do I contact my insurer before I have the roof looked at?
Either order works, but having the roof examined first tells you whether the damage is large enough to justify a claim. Our free roof inspection leaves you with photos and a written description of each problem that you can hand to your insurer. Your policy still sets the rules, so check how long you have to file after the storm date.
How soon can you come out after a storm?
It depends on how many homes were hit. We give you an honest date and arrival window on the first call, and we call you if it moves. If water is coming in, tell us so we can plan temporary protection.
Will the repaired area match the rest of my roof?
We choose the closest shingle still being made in color, size and profile. New shingles can look slightly different until they weather. If your shingle is no longer made, we explain your options before any work begins.
Is hail damage worth fixing if nothing is leaking?
Often, yes. A fractured mat may not leak for months, but it lets water reach the underlayment over time and shortens the roof's life. We show you the hits in photos so you can decide with real information.
Is storm repair work covered by a warranty?
Yes. Our repair labor is covered by a 10-year labor warranty. Shingles and other materials carry whatever warranty their manufacturer provides.
