ServicesRoof Replacement
Roof Replacement in Covington, Planned Down to the Day
We strip your old roof to the deck, replace soft sheathing, and install new underlayment, flashing, shingles and ridge vent. Before work starts, you get a start date, the number of days the job should take and a morning arrival window. If rain moves the plan, we call you.

When a New Roof Makes More Sense Than Another Repair
A repair fixes one failure. A replacement makes sense when the failures are coming from the whole roof at once: shingles that have lost their granules and gone brittle, sealant strips that no longer hold in wind, or decking that has softened from years of slow leaks. At that point, patching one spot just moves the next leak a few feet over.
Freeze-thaw winters are hard on an aging roof. Water works under a lifted shingle tab, freezes, expands and pries it up a little further each cycle. Many older homes also carry two layers of shingles, which traps heat, hides rot and adds weight the framing was never sized for. A full tear-off clears all of that and lets us see the deck before anything new goes down.
If you are not sure which side of the line you are on, our roof inspections page explains how we check. We will tell you plainly if roof repair will buy you real time.
What Goes Into Your New Roof
Full tear-off
Every shingle layer, the old felt and the nails come off until bare sheathing shows. Laying new shingles over old ones hides problems, so we skip overlays entirely.
Deck check and sheathing repair
Once the deck is bare, we walk it and probe soft spots. Rotted or delaminated plywood or plank sections are cut out and replaced so new nails have something solid to grip. You see photos of what we replaced.
Ice and water shield plus synthetic underlayment
Self-adhering membrane goes along the eaves and in the valleys, where ice dams and heavy runoff push water uphill. Synthetic underlayment covers the rest of the deck as a second line of defense under the shingles.
New flashing, drip edge and pipe boots
Step flashing at sidewalls, counterflashing at chimneys, new drip edge and fresh pipe boots. Reusing old flashing under a new roof is one of the most common reasons a fresh roof leaks.
Balanced attic ventilation
We match soffit intake to ridge exhaust so the attic can breathe. Poor airflow cooks shingles from below in summer and feeds frost and ice dams in winter.
A labor warranty on the installation
Our crews are licensed and insured, and each replacement we install is backed by our 10-year labor warranty.

Signs Your Roof Is Due for Replacement
- Granules piling up in the gutters
- Those sandy granules shield the asphalt from UV light. Once they wash off in quantity, the shingles dry out and crack quickly.
- Curling, cupping or cracked shingles
- Edges that curl up or centers that dish down mean the shingle has lost its flexibility. Wind gets under them and tears them loose.
- Leaks in more than one spot
- One leak usually traces to one flashing or boot. Stains appearing in different rooms point to a roof that is failing across the board.
- A sagging or spongy roof deck
- A dip between rafters or a soft feel underfoot means the sheathing has absorbed water. That needs to come off, not get covered.
- Two layers already on the roof
- A second layer means the next roof has to be a full tear-off, and the hidden first layer is often hiding damage.
How Your Replacement Is Scheduled and Built
- 1
Free estimate on the roof
We measure the roof, count layers, check the attic for daylight and moisture, and look at flashing and ventilation. You get a written estimate with each line explained.
- 2
Start date and permit
We give you a start date and an honest number of working days, then pull the permit where your city requires one. Most full replacements on an average home take one to three days.
- 3
Prep and tear-off
We arrive inside the window we gave you, cover shrubs and protect siding and windows, then strip the roof. Any section we expose gets underlayment before the crew leaves that day.
- 4
Installation
Deck repairs, membrane, underlayment, flashing, shingles and ridge vent go on in that order. If a storm forecast moves the next day, we call you that evening with the new plan.
- 5
Cleanup and final walk
Before we pack up, the crew pulls a magnetic sweeper across your grass, flower beds and driveway to collect loose nails, and the torn-off roofing is hauled away in our dumpster. Then we go over the finished roof together, with photos from each stage of the job.
What Moves the Cost of a New Roof
We price your roof from its own measurements and what we find on it, so we will not give you a per-square-foot number over the phone. The written estimate breaks out each item on its own line. If tear-off uncovers rotted decking, you see it before we replace it.
- Roof area and steepness
- Each additional square adds shingles, underlayment and crew hours. A steep roof calls for harnesses and roof jacks, which slows every step of the work.
- Layers to remove
- Two or three old layers take longer to strip and add disposal weight.
- Decking condition
- Soft or rotted sheathing has to be replaced, and how much is only certain once the old roof is off.
- Details and penetrations
- Chimneys, dormers, skylights and valleys each need flashing work that adds time and material.
- Shingle line and permit
- Architectural shingles cost more than basic three-tab, and local permit fees are part of the total.
Roof Replacement Questions
- How long will my roof replacement take?
- Plan on one to three working days for a typical house. Size, pitch and the number of old layers decide where you land in that range, and we put that number in writing before the start date. If the deck turns out to need extensive repair, you hear from us that same day about how it shifts the schedule.
- What happens if it rains in the middle of the job?
- Each morning we strip just the section we can cover with membrane and underlayment by the end of the day. That way a surprise shower lands on new protective layers, not inside your home. If a forecast pushes the next work day, we call you with the new date instead of letting you wait.
- Do I need to be home during the work?
- No. We need access to an outdoor outlet and the driveway, and we like to do the final walk with you. Expect noise and some vibration inside, so move fragile items off walls under the roof.
- Can you put new shingles over my old roof?
- We do not. An overlay hides soft decking and old flashing, adds weight and shortens the life of the new shingles. A full tear-off is the only way to see what you are building on.
- What warranty comes with a new roof?
- Our installation carries a 10-year labor warranty. The shingles themselves come with the manufacturer's material warranty, and we walk you through what that covers.
